The architect’s favourite, these oversized, extra thick gluedown cork tiles in rich, molasses brown are made from one continuous colour-layer for exceptional longevity and insulation. The cork gets its beautiful deep colour from being boiled at high temperatures during manufacture. Melaza Corka Tiles come part-finished - you just need to give them a quick lacquer coating on site. They are suitable for use on walls as well as floors. More
Easy to fit - Just glue down and roller on matt lacquer for durability and water-resistance
Tough - suitable for busy family homes and commercial spaces alike. This premium natural cork flooring is great for kitchens and hallways
Climate positive - Corka actually removes more carbon from the atmosphere than is used in its manufacture
Warm and quiet - Cork’s natural honeycomb structure makes it extremely quiet and comfortable underfoot. Works well with underfloor heating too
Pure - Cork is naturally hypoallergenic so it’s a great choice for allergy sufferers
Corka is made using the bark of the cork oak, an evergreen which grows up to 20m high and lives for up to 200 years. The bark has a honeycomb cell structure, a natural fire retardant with exceptional insulating properties.
No trees are cut down during harvesting. The process requires great expertise (it is the highest paid job in Portuguese agriculture) and involves carving the bark off once every nine years. The first harvest takes place only 25 years after planting.
All of our cork comes from a 700,000-hectare forested ecosystem in southern Portugal known as the Montado, whose trees are protected by law. These forests make a significant contribution to reducing global warming, capturing an estimated 5 percent of the country’s annual CO2 emissions, or 4.8 million tons per year.
The sustainably managed cork forests support many endangered species including the Imperial eagle, wolves and the Iberian lynx, one of the most endangered cats in the world.
These gluedown cork tiles are easy to lay and work well with underfloor heating. They can be installed in almost all domestic areas and in most commercial spaces too. Our Melaza tiles come part-finished for quick finishing on site. Many of our customers lay the flooring themselves as a DIY project, but if you are looking for an experienced fitter, we can help – just email us your postcode.
With a tough protective surface treatment, our Corka is easy to clean and maintain: simply sweep or Hoover and then wash it using a damp cloth or well-wrung mop.
